Allergens and product info

On the webshop, your customer must be able to see which allergens a dish contains before they order. This is a legal requirement (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011): a webshop is a distance sale, and the allergen information must be available before the purchase is completed. You fill them in once on the product card. The webshop then shows them automatically in the product window.

Filling in allergens#

  1. Go to Products on the management page, open the category and click the pencil icon next to the product.

  2. At the bottom of the product card, you will find the Allergens / info block (Allergenen / info). Click Manage.

  3. Under Contains (Bevat), tick every allergen that is in the product.

  4. Confirm, then click Save on the product card. If you don't save, you lose your changes.

The list follows the fourteen allergens required by law: gluten, crustaceans, egg, fish, peanuts, soya (beans), milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide and sulphite, lupin and molluscs.

Gluten and nuts: also specify the type#

For gluten and nuts, the group name alone is not enough: the law requires the specific type of cereal or nut. If you tick gluten, the question Also specify the cereal type (Duid ook de graansoort aan) appears: wheat, spelt, khorasan wheat (kamut), rye, barley or oats. For nuts, you choose from almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashew nuts, pecan nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachio nuts and macadamia nuts. You can tick several types.

If you tick a cereal type straight away, Unipage automatically switches on gluten as well. If you untick gluten, the cereal types you selected disappear too. This way, a product can never contain "wheat without gluten".

Warning

Unipage shows what you fill in, no more and no less. Check your ingredient lists and update the allergens as soon as a recipe or supplier changes: as the merchant, you are responsible for correct allergen information.

Food category and spicy#

In the same block, under Food category (Voedingscategorie), you indicate what is useful for your customer to know: Vegetarian, Vegan, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Fish and Halal. Under Spicy, you choose Not spicy or a level from one to three.

Your customer sees vegetarian, vegan, halal and the spiciness on the webshop. You keep chicken, beef, pork and fish for your own overview: the webshop does not show them at the moment.

What your customer sees#

When the customer opens a product with allergens, a vegetarian or vegan label or a spiciness level, the product window shows the link View allergens / info. One tap opens a panel with a line for each allergen, for example "Contains gluten (wheat, spelt)" or "Contains milk", followed by the labels Vegan, Vegetarian, Halal and the number of flames for the spiciness. If none of this is filled in, the link does not appear, not even when only Halal is ticked.

Allergens only appear on the Webshop. They are not shown on Unipos PLUS or the Unikiosk.

Working faster#

If you duplicate a product, the allergens and the food category are copied too. If you work with variants of the same dish, fill in the allergens once and then duplicate. If you use variations such as sauces or toppings, keep in mind that allergens are set on the product, not on the individual options: mention the allergens of an option in the name or the description of the product.
