If you use loyalty, the Unipage points system, your customer earns loyalty points on every purchase and exchanges them for a reward. On the webshop, in the app and on the kiosk, this happens automatically through the customer account. It works the same way on the POS, on one condition: the order must be linked to the customer. This page explains how to do that quickly, how the points come in and how to apply a reward.
You set up the loyalty programme itself (a points card or a stamp card as a digital loyalty card, how many points per tier, which rewards) on the management page under Settings (Instellingen), Loyalty. To learn how to configure it, read Loyalty. These settings apply to all your channels, including the POS.
What your customer sees#
Your customer can follow their loyalty balance in three places:
In the mobile app: under Loyalty you will find their personal loyalty card, with their points balance, a barcode and the history of every transaction. If they tap the barcode, it appears full screen, ready to scan at the POS.
On the webshop: in their account under Loyalty points (Spaarpunten), they see their balance, how many points they still need for the next reward and the points history.
On the POS receipt: after a payment at the POS, the receipt prints how many points this purchase earned, how many were redeemed, if any, and what the new balance is.
Linking the customer to the order#
Saving points starts with linking. You have three ways to do it, from fast to manual.
1. Scan the barcode from the app#
Ask the customer to open their loyalty card in the mobile app and scan the barcode with the POS barcode scanner. You don't need to open anything first: the POS recognises the code from the product overview, links the customer and briefly shows the message "Customer found". The customer's name appears at the top of the sales buffer.
Tip
Is the code in the app too small for your scanner? Ask the customer to tap the barcode so it appears full screen. Also turn up the screen brightness for a moment: scanners read a light, high-contrast code best.
2. Scan a customer card or badge#
If you issue physical customer cards or NFC badges yourself, you link that code to the customer once (on the POS when you create the customer, or in the customer record on the management page). After that, the customer is linked with a single scan, without the app. See Customers.
3. Look them up in the customer picker#
Does the customer not have their phone with them, or no account yet? Tap the customer button in the sales buffer and search in the customer picker. You can search by first name, surname, e-mail address, phone number, business name or VAT number. Tap the right customer and the order is in their name.
Tip
Search by mobile number. Most people know their own number by heart, and a number is unique: you don't have to hesitate between three customers called Jan. Just ask "what is your mobile number?" and type in the last digits.
Is the customer not in the list? Create them right away on the POS with a name and e-mail address. With that same e-mail address they can log in later on the webshop or in the app and see their points.
Saving points#
Once the linked order is paid, the POS sends the receipt to your management page and the points are automatically added to the customer's balance, according to the tiers in your loyalty settings. You don't need to do anything extra on the POS. The customer sees the new points a few moments later in the app and on the webshop.
Do you use a stamp card instead of a points card? Then it works identically on the POS: each stamp is one point.
Saving on certain products#
By default, all products in the order count. On the management page, you can limit saving to certain products, categories or tags: under Settings, Loyalty, at Save points on (for a stamp card Save stamps on). For example, points for sandwiches, but not for drinks. This setting also applies to the POS straight away; you don't need to change anything on the POS itself. To learn how to set it up, read Loyalty.
At the POS, it works like this:
Only the products that match your choice count towards the tiers. If a customer orders a sandwich for 8 euros and a cola for 2 euros, and you only save on sandwiches, they earn points on 8 euros.
A discount on a single product comes entirely off that product. A discount on the whole order is distributed proportionally: with 10 percent discount on that order, the customer earns points on 7.20 euros.
The POS receipt shows the number of points on the products that count, and the management page credits exactly that number to the customer's balance.
If the customer redeems a reward at the same time, the usual rules apply: by default, that order earns nothing. With Save when redeeming switched on, they earn on the products that count, after the reward's discount.
Applying a reward#
If the linked customer has enough points for a reward, a green bar appears above the sales buffer: "[naam] has a reward available", with the Show reward button. If you don't want to use the reward now, close the bar with the cross; the points stay on the balance.
If you tap Show reward, the Loyalty reward window opens with the customer's balance and the list of all your rewards. You can tap the rewards the customer has enough points for; the others are greyed out, with the number of points needed. If a reward is limited to certain products or a category, you can only choose it if such a product is in the order; otherwise it says "Not applicable to the products in this order".
Tap a reward and the POS applies it straight away:
A reward on the whole order appears as a discount line on the order (a percentage or a fixed amount).
A reward on specific products gives the discount on one item of the product in question, not on the whole order. If the product is in the order several times, the POS takes the cheapest item by default.
The green bar now shows "[aantal] points will be deducted for [naam]". Made a mistake? Tap Cancelling and confirm: the discount disappears and the points stay on the balance. The points are only really deducted once the order is paid.
Good to know
An order in which a reward is redeemed does not earn new points by default. If you do want that, switch on Save when redeeming on the management page under Settings, Loyalty. See Loyalty.
If the scan doesn't work#
Make sure no text field is active on the POS (for example the search field or a note). First tap somewhere on the product overview and scan again.
If the customer is still not linked, check the scanner test under Settings, Health: it shows exactly which characters your scanner sends and whether it also sends an Enter. More about this in Health: problemen oplossen.
If scanning really doesn't work, look up the customer in the customer picker; points and rewards then work exactly the same.
