Menu planning

With menu planning, your menu changes automatically based on time, period or channel. Think of pizzas at half price on quiet Monday afternoons, an adjusted menu during the Christmas holidays, or a higher price on busy evenings. Everything happens by itself: prices are recalculated from the base price, and products appear or disappear at the right times.

Creating a menu plan#

  1. Go to Products, Menu planning on the management page.

  2. Create a new plan and set when it applies:
    - Type of order: pick up, delivery or on-site.
    - Days and times: for example every Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 to 13:00.
    - Period: specific dates, such as a holiday.

  3. Set what the plan does:
    - Prices: raise or lower prices, for example by a percentage. The system automatically calculates from the base price.
    - Availability: switch products on or off for the duration of the plan.

On the Menu planning page, you can see at a glance which plan applies when for each product.

Example 1: pizzas at half price on Monday#

Say your Monday afternoons are quiet and you want to boost them with pizzas at half price between 11:00 and 13:00. Here is how to set it up:

  1. Go to Products, Menu planning and create a New menu plan (Nieuwe menuplanning), for example Pizza Monday.

  2. Under Active days (Actieve dagen), choose Monday and under Active hours (Actieve uren), set 11:00 to 13:00.

  3. Find your pizzas and give them a percentage discount (percentage korting) of 50 percent. With Bulk edit (Bulk aanpassing), you can do this for several products at once.

Every Monday afternoon, the system automatically charges half price, recalculated from the base price. Outside those hours, your normal menu simply applies, without you having to do anything.

Example 2: a festive menu during the Christmas holidays#

Say that during the Christmas holidays you serve a limited festive menu with a few special dishes. Here is how to set it up:

  1. Create a new menu plan Christmas holidays and set the start and end date under Period, for example from 20 December to 4 January inclusive.

  2. Under Visibility (Zichtbaarheid), set your festive dishes to forced visible (geforceerd zichtbaar) and the dishes you do not make during those weeks to forced invisible (geforceerd onzichtbaar).

  3. Do you also want a different rate for the festive dishes? Give them a surcharge (toeslag) or a new price (nieuwe prijs) straight away.

As soon as the holidays start, your menu changes by itself: the festive dishes appear and the rest disappears. After the end date, everything automatically returns to your normal menu.

Example 3: pancakes between 13:00 and 14:30#

Say you make pancakes every day, but only between 13:00 and 14:30. Outside that window, they do not belong on the menu. Here is how to set it up:

  1. Switch the pancakes off in your regular Availability, so they are not on the menu by default.

  2. Create a new menu plan Pancakes and set Active hours to 13:00 to 14:30. Leave Active days empty, and the plan applies every day.

  3. Find the pancakes in the plan and set them to forced visible under Visibility.

Every day at 13:00, the pancakes appear on the menu by themselves, and at 14:30 they disappear again. Customers can only order them when pancakes are really being made.

Priority: which plan wins?#

You can safely have several plans active at the same time: the three examples above can run side by side. If two plans affect the same product at the same moment, the Priority column decides: the plan with the highest priority wins. Effects never stack on a single product: a Christmas offer of 50 percent does not come on top of a Monday offer of 50 percent.

What your customer sees#

If your customer chooses a pickup time within an active plan on the webshop, the prices adjust straight away. If the customer changes to a time outside the plan, a message appears saying the prices have changed. Products that become unavailable because of a plan disappear automatically from the shopping basket.

This is how your customer sees a menu plan on the webshop: the old price is crossed out and the offer price applies straight away.

Checking and following up#

  • With the Tester, you check per channel and order type which plan becomes active at which time, and when the system falls back to the base price.

  • With Report (Rapport), you can see how many orders were placed through a plan and how much discount you have given in total.

Good to know#

  • A product set to forced invisible never appears, not even through a menu plan. A product that is completely out of stock is not affected by any plan.

  • Do you want to show a product that is normally not visible only through a plan? Then set it to forced visible.
