Kitchen display (KDS)

If you send lines on the POS with Send, they appear in the kitchen. Besides the kitchen printer, you can also use a kitchen display: a separate screen with all current orders, which keeps pace with how busy the day gets.

What you can do with it#

  • All orders of the day in one overview, showing for each order the time, the elapsed time and whether it is for takeaway or on-site.

  • Tick off products as they are done, and clear the receipt once the whole order has gone out. Cleared it by accident? Just bring the order back.

  • A production list of everything that still has to be prepared today, showing the most common products.

  • Browse forward or back by day to look at future orders.

  • You can still print a paper receipt at any time.

Getting started#

On the management page, go to Settings (Instellingen), Kitchen displays (Keukenschermen). A KDS configuration bundles the layout, the production centres and the printers of one kitchen setup. Click New configuration, give it a Name (for example "Bar kitchen") and open it. You will find three tabs:

  • Settings: the Layout of the tickets on the screen (columns per ticket, font size, card width, base preparation time), the Card colours (see below) and whether deliveries get a separate tab.

  • Production centres: the tabs that appear on the device, for example Bar, Kitchen and Takeaway. Click Add production centre, enter a Display name and choose under Filter whether this screen shows all orders or only what another screen forwards. With Status after completion you decide whether a completed ticket goes on to a next screen (from the kitchen to the pickup counter) or is simply done. You set which products go to which screen under Hidden products, just like with printers.

  • Printers: which printers are physically connected to this setup.

You open the screen itself on the tablet or computer in your kitchen. If you are logged in to the management page on that device, click Open on this device at the production centre, or Open kitchen display on the home screen of the management page. On a device without the management page, open the KDS app and enter the setup code that you create under Settings, API with Generate Setup Code. Then choose the configuration for this device. Can't work it out? Contact us and we will help you set up your kitchen display.

Colour as a signal#

Orders that have to be ready by a certain time (for example webshop orders) turn red in time, so the kitchen doesn't lose track of them. For products that deserve extra attention, you can set a colour of their own in the product settings.

Card colours#

Every order card on the kitchen display has a coloured title bar, and you decide those colours yourself. On the management page, open Settings, Kitchen displays and go to the settings of your KDS configuration: under Card colours you will find a table with one colour for each combination of source (Webshop, Kiosk, POS, Digital menu or Table) and type (Takeaway, Delivery or On site).

The Card colours table: choose the colour of the order cards for each source and type. Click to change the colour
The Card colours table: choose the colour of the order cards for each source and type.
  • By default, each source gets one colour for all types: red for the webshop, orange for the kiosk, indigo for the rest. Adjust the colours per type where you want to tell them apart, for example a colour of their own for deliveries.

  • The text colour switches automatically to black or white, so every chosen colour stays readable.

  • With Reset to default you go back to the default colours with one click.
