Activating and setting up screens

You can find Digital signage in the main menu of the management page. You can control as many screens with it as you like: each display contains slides, and each slide is an image that is shown for 10 seconds.

Activating displays#

  • By default, Display 1 is the left-hand screen as seen from the front, and so on towards the right.

  • Give each display a name, choose a transition under Slide effect (Fade or Cube) and choose Horizontal or Vertical under Scherm oriëntatie (Screen orientation). Give all displays the same slide effect: this keeps the transitions in sync on all screens.

Naming and arranging screens#

  • Name your screens after their location, for example "Terrace left", "Back room centre" and "Back room right": this helps you keep track of things when you manage content per screen.

  • Drag the screens into the right order using the blocks icon, from left to right: this order determines which content appears on which screen.

  • For each display, choose the slide effect you want from the dropdown.

Editing a display#

Click the pencil next to a display to open the slide overview: all the slides of that screen, with the actions for each slide in the three-dot menu.

Warning

If several screens are connected to one media player, the physical order follows the HDMI order in Windows: the order on the management page must match it. If you use several media players in one shop, use separate shops per location: each media player starts from screen 1 by default.

Editing slides#

Click Open editor next to a display. The editor opens in a separate window and is in English. On the left you see the slides of this display: drag them into the order you want, or open the three-dot menu on a slide for Duplicate, Move Slide (to another display), Export Slide and Delete. At the bottom, you add a slide with Empty slide or choose a ready-made design with Choose template.

An empty slide first asks for a layout: one component on the full screen, two side by side or one above the other, or a grid of four. Then click Add component and choose what goes in each area: Hero, Image, Product List, Variations Product List, Product Group, Product Catalog or Full Page Canvas. You can read what each component does in Components.

On the right you edit the selected component. At the top you can see where you are (Wrap, then the column, then the component), so you can always go back to the whole. With Slide style at the top right, you open the settings for the whole slide. Click Save regularly: every saved change goes straight to your screens, and you don't need to restart a media player.

Colours and fonts#

Open Slide style and go to the Style tab. Under Theme, choose a ready-made colour scheme (Default, White, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green or Dark green), or set the colours yourself:

  • Bg primary and Bg secondary: the background colour and a second colour for smaller highlighted areas.

  • Text primary, Text primary alt and Text secondary: the colour of the main text, of smaller titles and of the subtext.

  • Text primary highlight: the colour of text in highlighted areas.

  • Font primary and Font secondary: the font of the main text and of the subtext.

Background photos and video#

On the Backgrounds tab, you load a background image under Background image. Under Background image 2, you can add a second image that is shown on top of the first, handy for a transparent logo or an atmosphere layer. Use images of 1920 x 1080 pixels for a landscape screen and 1080 x 1920 for a portrait screen, otherwise the image will be stretched. You set a video as the background under Background video; with Span Video Across Multiple Displays, you let one video run across several screens side by side.

How long a slide stays on screen#

On the Content tab, you set under Slide Duration (seconds) how long this slide is shown, 10 seconds by default. If you work with videos across several screens, switch View mode at the top from Grid to Timeline: this timeline shows per display how the slides and videos are timed in relation to each other.

Scheduling screens#

Do you want to show different screens at lunchtime than in the evening, or switch the screens off after closing time? You do that under Settings, Schedules (Schema's). Tick Enable schedule (Schema inschakelen) and, under Planning per day (Planning per dag), create time blocks for each weekday with Add time block (Voeg tijdsblok toe): a Start time (Starttijd), an End time (Eindtijd) and, under Display selection (Displayselectie), which displays are active in that block. With Copy to other days (Kopieer naar andere dagen), you copy a day's schedule across in one go. The Overview shows your whole week at a glance. If the schedule is off, all displays are active around the clock.

Outside the time blocks, the screens show nothing. Tick Show display information during blank mode (Toon informatie display tijdens blanco modus) if you would rather see a clock, the date and the next schedule than a black screen.

Good to know

Under Settings, Status, you see for each media player whether it is online and playing, when it last made contact, and you can restart it remotely.
