# Managing departments

Departments group your items on the POS: think of Hot drinks, Cold drinks or Kitchen. You manage them via **Restaurant, Article, Departments** (Restaurant, Artikel, Departementen), or via **Bookmarks** (Bladwijzers) and then **Departments**.

## Creating a new department

1. Go to **Restaurant, Article, Departments**.
2. Select a department with similar settings and press the **copy icon** to make a copy of it.
3. Change the name and the group of the department and add the sales areas you want.
4. Link the supplements and condiments to the department:
- **Condiment**: unpaid additions that apply to all items in the department, such as 'Don't make', '2 glasses', 'Rare' or 'Medium'.
- **Supplement**: paid additions that apply to all items in the department, such as '+ pepper sauce' or '+ whipped cream'.
5. Press **Ok**. The department is now on the POS.

> **Tip:** Write the department name in capitals. It is easier to read on the POS screen.

To learn how to create those condiments and supplements yourself, read [Modifiers, options and supplements](https://unipage.be/en/support/untill/modifiers-options-and-supplements).

## Order of the departments

The department number sets the order on the order screen. Open the department, change the number and the order changes with it.

## Order of the items

Items appear in a fixed order based on their item number. Here is how to change that:

1. Open the department in which you want to change the order.
2. Go to the **Normal articles** tab.
3. Choose the icon for the POS (left) or for the handheld (right): you set the order per device.
4. Drag the items to the right place.

Useful buttons for this:

- **Sort by number** sets the order to match the item numbers.
- **Sort by name** puts the items in alphabetical order.
- **Set PC order** (visible in the handheld order) makes the order on the handhelds match that of the POS.

> **Good to know:** Added articles (tab 3) are sorted separately and appear at the end of the item list on the POS.

## Showing an item in an extra department

Items appear automatically in the department they are assigned to. If you also want to show an item somewhere else, add it manually:

1. Select the department to which you want to add items.
2. Go to the **Added articles** tab and choose **New** or **Duplicate**.
3. Click the button with the three dots to search for an item.
4. Search for and select the item you want to add.
