# GKS (registered cash register)

Unipage is a supplier of registered cash register systems: we have several GKS-compliant systems available. For the hospitality sector, GKS 2.0 is the legal standard today, and [Unipos PLUS](https://unipage.be/en/support/unipos-plus) is fully GKS 2.0-compliant. That is why we focus on it here.

## What is a GKS?

A registered cash register system, commonly known as the white cash register, records every transaction in a fraud-proof way for FPS Finance, as a tool in the fight against VAT fraud. GKS 2.0 brings new rules and new technology: it is laid down in the Royal Decree of 24 April 2024 and, after a tolerance period until 30 June 2026, it has been mandatory since 1 July 2026.

## Who has to use a GKS?

The rule of thumb: if your annual turnover from **restaurant and catering services**, excluding VAT and excluding drinks, is more than **25.000 euro**, you must use a GKS and issue a GKS receipt for every transaction.

- **Counts**: meals consumed on-site and catering services. This applies to restaurants, cafés and snack bars, but just as much to hotels, caterers and the eating area of a bakery or butcher's shop.
- **Does not count**: drinks (even with a meal), takeaway meals and regular food sales, rental of tables, chairs or tableware (unless linked to an event with catering), side activities such as wellness or bowling, and foreign turnover.

Not sure whether your business falls under the obligation, or whether you qualify for an exemption? Take a look at [the guidelines and exemptions](https://www.geregistreerdkassasysteem.be/nl/ondernemer), or ask us: we are happy to help.

## Unipage guides you

Setting up a GKS does not have to be a hassle: we guide you from registration to your first receipt. Here are some useful links and tips to have ready:

- Register your business in the [GKS portal of FPS Finance](https://eservices.minfin.fgov.be/gks/jsf/external/horeca). You enter your details there: your **NISS number** (national register number, on the back of your identity card), your **company number** and the **establishment unit number** of your business. Also keep a copy of your identity card at hand, as it saves you searching.
- On [geregistreerdkassasysteem.be](https://www.geregistreerdkassasysteem.be/nl) you can find out whether your business needs a GKS, the exemptions and all current rules.

Once your registration is complete, we assign your GKS 2.0-compliant Unipos PLUS to your business and set everything up together with you. Questions along the way? Feel free to [contact us](https://unipage.be/en/support/contact), we will guide you through it.

## Also without a GKS

No white cash register needed for your business? Unipos PLUS also exists in regular mode, without GKS: exactly the same POS and functions, without the fiscal registration.

> **Good to know:** If you work with a GKS, discipline counts double: give every team member their own PIN code so that transactions are registered per person, and make sure your [VAT rates](/en/support/unipos-plus/getting-started/vat-rates) are set correctly.
