# Customers

When you link an order to a customer, it is placed under their name. This is handy for pickup orders, for payments with the [customer wallet](https://unipage.be/en/support/unipos-plus/customer-loyalty/customer-wallet) and for your [loyalty card](https://unipage.be/en/support/webshop/marketing-and-customers/loyalty). A digital VAT receipt by e-mail is also only possible if the order is linked to a customer with an e-mail address.

## Linking a customer

1. In the sales buffer, tap the customer button.
2. The customer picker opens: search by name and tap the right customer.
3. The order is now in that customer's name.

## Creating a new customer

Is the customer not in the list yet? Create them straight away on the POS, with first name and surname, e-mail address, phone number, a company name if needed, and an NFC code or barcode: scan the customer card or badge and the customer is linked with a single scan from then on.

That same NFC code or barcode is also the customer's membership card, if you sell punch cards or subscriptions. See [Membership cards and subscriptions](https://unipage.be/en/support/unipos-plus/customer-loyalty/membership-cards-and-subscriptions).

## Unlinking a customer

Open the customer picker again and choose no customer: the order carries on without a link.

## Digital VAT receipt by e-mail

If you work with [GKS 2.0](https://unipage.be/en/support/unipos-plus/gks-registered-cash-register), you may deliver the VAT receipt digitally instead of on paper. This is only possible if the order is linked to a customer with an e-mail address. On the payment screen you then get an extra choice: e-mail the receipt (on by default) or print it anyway. If you choose to e-mail it, the POS does not print a paper receipt and the customer receives the signed receipt in their mailbox, with a link to check it. If e-mailing fails, the POS still prints a paper receipt.

## Webshop orders

You don't need to link orders from your [webshop](https://unipage.be/en/support/webshop) yourself. The POS looks up the customer automatically via the webshop account or the e-mail address on the order. If that customer is in your customer list, the order is linked to them straight away, so you can also deliver the VAT receipt digitally.

> **Good to know:** The customer list syncs automatically with your management page. At the top of the picker you can see when the list was last updated, and you can refresh it manually at any time. Everything you manage per customer on the management page, from receipts to wallet and notes, is covered in [The customer file](/en/support/unipos-plus/customer-loyalty/the-customer-profile). How a customer earns points and redeems rewards on the POS is covered in [Loyalty points and loyalty on the POS](/en/support/unipos-plus/customer-loyalty/loyalty-points-on-the-pos).
